‘The Last Sitting’ by Bert Stein (1962)
Commissioned by Vogue in late June 1962 and taking place over 3 sessions, ‘The Last Sitting’ was photographed by Bert Stein and includes over 2,500 images of Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn disliked several images and on the contact sheets not only made several x’s in magic marker but also had scratched the images with her hairpin. Stein stated, “she hadn’t just scratched out my pictures, she’d scratched out herself.” Six weeks later Marilyn Monroe was found dead.
